Editing and proofreading resources
Download information (with sample markup) about various editing tools or features that are included with commonly-used office software applications.
- MS Word: Track Changes - information and sample markup (download .docx file)
- OpenOffice: Record Changes - information and sample markup (download .odt file)
- Pages (for Mac): Track Changes - information and sample markup (download .pages file)
- Adobe PDF: Comment and Markup - information and sample markup (download .pdf file)
Note: with MS Word and OpenOffice and Pages (for Mac), corrections and changes are made directly to a copy of the actual document and then simply accepted or rejected (either individually or as a block) by the author.
The Adobe Acrobat PDF Comment and Markup tool is more like marking corrections and changes to a printed document as the author will then need to go back to their original document and physically make the changes which have been highlighted on the PDF copy via the PDF Comment and Markup tool.
Also note, the markup made via the Adobe Acrobat PDF Comment and Markup Tool must be viewed via an actual Adobe Acrobat Reader (free version available from www.adobe.com) as compared to an alternative PDF viewer.
